Aswan

The gentlest city in Egypt, and the gateway to Abu Simbel.

About Aswan

Why go to Aswan

Aswan is where the Nile is at its most beautiful — islands, feluccas, and golden light on the water. Philae Temple sits on its own island, moved stone by stone to save it from the rising dam. South of the city, the colossi of Abu Simbel wait at the edge of Lake Nasser.

It's also the start of most Nile cruises. We combine the sights with time to simply sit by the river — the thing people remember most.

When to visit

October to April is ideal. Aswan is the warmest of the Nile cities, so mornings and evenings are best in summer.
